RTE news has reported that north and south Korea are exchanging fire across the sea border, can't link sorry, but its one of the top stories on rte news now.what will be the implications of this?will outsiders become involved? The US has bases in south Korea,so its likely they will. But what about the Chinese, they always keep their cards close to their chest when it comes to Korean matters, and the Russians have their hands tied with the situation in Ukraine.if somebody could throw up a link it would be much appreciated.

It's just North Korean men trying to shoot their way out before the new haircut law comes into effect.

This maritime shelling thing has happened before.

Glorious leader Cartman must not have had enough sleep or something.

It's just sabre rattling. Unlikely it will lead to anything more.

It's nothing new. Every few months something always seems to happen with the North Korean Army testing how far they can go, or what they can get away with. It's just to show they are still serious.

Yep, seems like they wave their dicks about across the border every few months or so just to show that they can. And probably now so that the South Koreans can laugh at everyone in the North having a very silly haircut.

Nothing happened when the North Koreans sunk the Cheonan. I don't think a volley of artillery rounds across the border into the sea is going to turn into anything too serious.

North Korea is that wee annoying drunk fella down the pub that's always spoiling for a fight and being a nuisance. Every now and then someone will give him a wee slap to keep him in his place, but nobody is prepared to 'sort' him once and for all as he has a family back home that are completely dependent on him despite his abusive ways.

North Korea's threatening war, it must be springtime again.

    Indeed it is!

Must be time for some sabre-rattling.

    - Then 'talks'..... Which NK conveniently will demand food aid as a precursor.
    - 2 weeks later NK will break off the 'talks' knowing that national starvation has been temporarily averted.

Has a warning been faxed yet?

    If not we're grand.

and yes for those wondering N.K. still uses fax for things like this.

edit: last time they threatened Warning via fax

I know that was meant as a joke, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Last month it was Russia starting Cold War and Putin hovering the red button like he was new to FPS's. Cue 500 page thread.

And now North Korea is about to kick off his annual "hand me out some grain" or i'll write you a very angry letter.

If this thread reachs page 50 and there isn't a nuclear war by that time, I'll be slightly disappointed and more than a bit irritated

Oh how very exciting, I do love myself a good war.

I do think there should be a dedicated channel for all things war though, there's a definite gap in the market!

I think the main negative result of this for me will be my grandmother seeing it on RTE and plagueing my mother asking if I'm ok.

Better nuke 'em. And the South too, just to be sure.

Nail on head! North Korea might find themselves in a precarious position though IMO, after their leader culled members of his family in a fairly barbaric way, they have lost some backing from China and Russia in the process. It will be interesting to see where this may go

One day the Dear Leader will over step the mark. All South Korea's allies will fall in behind them and China will not support dearest Kim in any material way.

It always evokes the image of a child testing their parents to me...that's all that North Korea are on the world stage, a petulant student in the class that nobody really likes.

Springtime for Hitler Kim. Could be an interesting musical comedy in that!

    Springtime for Kim and Pyeongyang,
    Winter for Busan and Seoul.

We should try and get Russia to annex them, solves Putin's need to take over places and rids us of North Korea, win win

The South Korean gangsters have been pushing their luck. Thankfully the brave personnel of the KPA under the guidance of Marshal Kim Jong Un have responded appropriately. Indeed, the KPA have done so very leniently as their aim is to secure peace within the region. Unlike the warmongering South that is run by it's US pimp.

    Dont see it kicking off.

Kim Jon Insane does this now and again, bit like 1984, the idea of a never ending war to keep the population under control.

He knows if he did attack the South it would be the end of his dynasty. That is all the the family cares about, keeping the power.

Really? Can any North Korean run for election? Any opposition parties?

    From Wiki;
Members of the Supreme People's Assembly are elected in single-member constituencies, with one approved candidate put forward in each constituency. Voters are presented with a ballot paper, on which there is a single box to tick. In order to vote against the candidate, voters must enter a special booth and cross out the candidate's name. Voting is compulsory.

As far as I understand it, if you vote against a candidate, you 'disappear'. If they tried that here you'd be the first to complain. Hypocrite.

North Korea at it again? That reminds me, before the Russian Invasion and Lost Plane, Iran was sending a warship to the US borders. I should check on their status. Maybe they got lost.
