    1. What is your budget? Up to €1k

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? I work in IT, but I'm not up to speed on the best equipment options, which is why I'm here! This will be a home PC which I'll use for some gaming. Mainly I'll want to be able to run up to 4(ish) virtual machine's (Windows & Linux) At the same time with reasonable performance so I can sandbox stuff that I'd do on more powerful servers in work. I'm looking for as much ram as possible, SSD for the OS and a good processor.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I have a good wireless keyboard and mouse and I want to use an old PowerMac G5 case (looks like this) I know that case will complicate the build but I've been planning to use it for a couple of years now.

    5. Do you need a monitor? Yes

5a. If yes, what size do you need. I'd like to have a 3 monitor setup, 24' but I'm not looking to buy them yet, they'll have to wait for now :-) I have a 21' that will keep me going for a while. As part of the initial build, I want a good video card that can handle the 3 monitor setup later on.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes, definitely, I've always wanted to try it.

    8. How can you pay? Bank Transfer/Credit Card

    9. When are you purchasing? 60 - 90 days

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Dublin based, but I can build it myself.

Final point, this PC will be in my bedroom and left on overnight sometimes, so the quieter the better!

Thanks for the help, if I've left anything out feel free to ask questions!

    D

    On the noise front.

You sure about z case? I'd go nanoxia deep silence 1. You said you wanted quiet this would be the way to go.

Get a coolmaster hyper evo 212. As you are overclocking. It's cheap enough considering how highly recommended it is.

Try get an gigabyte or Asus brand Gpu. Gigabyte is probably way to go as always cheaper than Asus and better overclocking potential.

    (Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 WindForce 3X, 4GB GDDR5, 2x DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort) price 357 euro sourced at hardwareversand.de using geizhals.de)

Will have a look at parts for you using discount site.

Hmm, you've got me thinking about that case now! :-) The g5 case is just something I kept around sitting on a shelf, always with the idea of building something in it because it does look good! The deep silence looks like a runner!

    Item|Price
    ASRock Z87 Pro3, Sockel 1150, ATX|€78.06
    be quiet! SYSTEM POWER 7 600W - bulk -|€68.64
    WD Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€49.80
    Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 WindForce 3X, 4GB GDDR5, 2x DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort|€374.82
    2 x Samsung SSD 840 EVO Basic 250GB SATA 6Gb/s|€239.98
    Intel Xeon E3-1230v3 Bx, LGA1150|€213.19
    2 x 8GB G.Skill PC3-12800U CL11-11-11-28|€121.52
Nanoxia Deep Silence Two Anthracite, ohne Netzteil|€82.01
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - Intel/AMD|€29.69
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€1276.70

A bit over but this its a good workstation and excellent gaming PC.

R9 290 is the best bang for buck card out there at the moment and will max out any game currently out at 60FPS or more

I put in two Samsung SSD's. One for your operating system and your main programs and the other one for your SSD. One 256GB would probably be enough depending how much space you need so that would knock 120 off the price.

16GB should be enough to run virtual machines. You could assign 4GB to each VM but 2 GB would probably be plenty depending on the work that your are doing.

I put in a Xeon as well which is not overclockable. I wouldn't run an overclock on a work PC that is going to be powered on the whole time and running heavy CPU tasks and is work related

If looks are something you want as well as silence, do a quick image search of an nzxt h440. Might night be your bag.

Yawhat has done you up a good solid build. If you can't stretch the budget can trim some without too much compromising.
