Laptop for 300/400 quid?

Hi folks, i'm looking for a cheap enough laptop, i'm happy enough to buy it online or in a shop (i live in dublin)

I use my current laptop for downloading (movies/series & music), itunes and surfing. Not much else really.

Can anyone suggest a decent laptop? I'm looking to buy a 'new' one and i'm open to any make/model

Thanks Killanena, my only concern would be that it's used. Is this an issue?

It shouldn't be. All mine worked perfectly and he will give you a full refund if they don't. To buy one new with that spec would be 300-400. Maybe a little more and HP are common and reliable.

Edit: They might have small dents in the paint on the back but I wouldn't consider that an issue, Specially for 190 euro inc postage.

2008 model, but should do the basics well. resolution not stated so assume it is 1280x800 pixels.

Personally I'd go with a different model and manufacturer

We have a lot of those 6930p's in the office and they aren't great.. overheating, display issues etc. The newer ones (8460p or 8470p) are just as bad.

Look for something like a DELL Latitude E6420 or E6430 - they're a lot better!

Based entirely on my experiences with all of the above of course.

So frustrating, I have a HP Pavillion (probably 5 years old at this stage), overheats so much sometimes after 1 hour and switches off.

Don't know why this happens

The specs on that aren't the best. The HD size is very small

Might need cleaning out of dust.

Also use it on a hard surface so the vents aren't blocked.

Use the power settings to slow and turn off the laptop when idle so it cools down when it can.

Get then CPU re seated with new more effective thermal paste.
