Bitten by some insect

So was playing rugby yesterday and whilst training before it I was bitten about 8 times by some flies.
Bigger than a midge but smaller than horsefly. Started out at tiny little red dots but woke up this morning and they've turned into big hives and are affecting my movement in my right leg. Can hardly bend it. My leg is actually swollen by it.
    Any idea what done it?

The weather is not warm and humid enough yet for mosquito bites. I would suspect Black Gnats at this time of year. Google gnat birds and see does the circular bite match up.
A decent anti- histamine cream should clear them.

I had a look at gnat bites and it doesn't match up.
Mozzy bite looks more like what I have.
What makes me think mozzy was I play rugby in a park and right beside the field is a river.

Dodder, of all people you should know mozzys are a crateure of standing water only and do not frequent flowing rivers. :)
It is really very early and the wrong weather for biting mozzys yet.

They weren't big enough for horseflies.
Ike up this morning an my leg was pretty swollen more than it was yesterday and was horrible in work :(
Not good. Kinda annoying me what it could be.
Srameen I still think mozzy. I know I said river but it goes into a small lake about 50 metres from where I was bitten.

    Hi Dodderangler
Was that down by Bushy park? I was bitten there last night as well and I have a huge lump from it today. What bit me certainly looked like a mossi.

In tymon park. Not too far and with the weather heating up it won't be surprising.
