So, I've just finished watching the 1988 classic on Channel 4 and I'm a little confused. The last shot of the film is of Josh and Billy hanging out but I could have sworn there was a scene where a new girl arrives in Josh's class and and we are introduced to her as Susan. Susan and Josh share a look and it's clear that adult Susan used the machine to make herself young again to be with Josh .... did I dream/imagine this or am I getting mixed up with another film?

I've seen the film many times growing up and I don't remember that ever happening.

Seems to be an alternate ending in New Zealand at least http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094737/alternateversions?mode=desktop

I have a vague memory of a scene like that too.

its a common mix-up between the ending of big and a different film with a similar premise http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/14_Going_on_30

The older I got the less sense that movie made, why isn't there a huge city wide manhunt for this abducted child? his mother seems totally grand about the whole thing

I've never seen '14 Going On 30' so I don't think it's that thanks though

She lets the stranger who appeared in her house the morning he disappeared sing to her on the phone too.

Ah it's a great film though with a huge amount of nostalgia for me, i like the more poignant ending that we got too.

are you positive? the chances of you having seen that film and not remembering it far outweigh the chances that new zealand somehow got an exclusive alternate ending that nobody has ever been able to confirm even exists

You are thinking of 14 Going on 30. Such an ending was never shot for Big. Anyone can edit IMDb.

.... no I just watched the 14 Going On 30 ending and it is vaguely familiar, but I'm still 90% sure I've never seen it.

I found another forum about the same topic, and am trolling through it for answers!!

surely it would be on youtube or easy to find through google if it existed. Seems to be a bit of an urban myth!

More or less identical to your memory of Big from OP. About 3 minutes in and after. From 14 going on 30.

I always felt Tom Hanks played the part of a teenager like he was an 8 year old.

Who knows, maybe your right, but such a really really blatant rip off of another films scene seems unlikely.

This sub genre is founded on rip offs sure so I wouldn't haveen that surprised :P Big, Freaky Friday, 13 Going on 30, 14 going on 40 and Vise Versa too of course.

I an imagine when they were pitched "It will be like *film name* but different because it's a boy/girl!

Nah going through other forums I don't think it exists. Although both films were released in 1988 so it's hard to say who ripped off whom. I think 14GO30 was a TV movie as well, didn't get a cinema release.

It'll just take me a while to get used to the actual ending

None of those listed had an implied storyline of a grown up making themselves younger to stay with their young beau though did they? Or did they, not very clued in on this particular area of film classic!

No, some were body swaps some were kids being made into grown ups but it wouldn't be hard to work an ending like that into a few of them.
