How do completely deaf people speak ? As they cannot hear any sounds how do they know what speech sounds like, that deaf girl who heard for the first time spoke with an accent midlands / yorkshire , not saying she was not deaf or anything but why did she have an accent if she never heard it before ?

The majority of deaf and blind people can see and hear to some extent.
Accent is mostly made up of certain pitch changes which is the easiest part of pronunciation to pick up.

She was on the TV talking a time after she had her implant switched on so during the period between getting the implant and being interviewed she was probably surrounded by people with that accent and that's what she learned. Some people claim to be able to lipread an accent too so maybe years of lip reading that accent informed her own speech somehow.

As far as I know people who are completely deaf learn to speak through an awful lot of hard work in speech therapy. It's really not a simple process for most people it takes grit and determination.

There was only one joke post and it was just that, if you want to post then fire ahead - no need for the drama though.

I have served people who were deaf in retail. By looking directly at them and combining hand signals, I was able to deliver the products that they required.

Better off not asking. It would have only multiplied the number of questions asked in this thread.

As the op I knew I was taking a risk posting in after hours as it somtimes looks like a competition for the most stupid answer, but this was a genuine question, so if anyone has some knowledge or insight, please post

No this was years ago in a fast food place they were vocalizing, and hard to understand, but having pictures of the products helped alot, then I just need to verify if they wanted a meal or just the burger.
