We're having a Mad Scientist party in a few weeks.

Does anyone know where I could get some "lab" equipment that doesn't cost the earth. It's only for one night, so don't want to buy stuff but would love some beakers, flasks etc for effect

You could try goggling school science lab supplies in Ireland, see what pops up. I imagine this could work out pricey though.

Have you tried local 2 euro shops? They usually have a supply of glass measurement and beakers in the cookware section, may be of use, add coloured water etc for effect. Try also their homeware section for unusual shaped glass vases etc. You can get protective eye goggles in their hardware section (Dealz.. 1.49euro!)

IKEA usually have some unusual shaped glass too, could look well and cheap enough

There's plenty others too - worth a browse.

Also worth a nose are local charity shops - sometimes you come across glass bits that you could use. Print off enlarged periodic tables, few atom posters etc.

Plastic test tubes (sample bottles) can usually be bought for a couple of pence from your local pharmacy or vet's.

Try donedeal or adverts.ie for a mini strobe light or / and fog machine too and also potential second hand science equipment .

Perhaps old texts books, pages ripped out and stuck onto walls / doors in a manic fashion would add to the theme. Drop of poster paint will colour water no problem in the glass, could look well.

Nice idea for a theme - have fun!!

Oh - if you visit your local recycling centre too they usually have a section for old electronic equipment. Perhaps a few old PC monitors or keyboards, opened up, wires and circuit boards exposed etc could look good too. try adding in some cheap neon glow-sticks or laces too, give the idea of energy etc. Usually can get these cheap in 2euro shop :)

Don't be afraid either of using existing glass bottles, jars etc - few labels printed off and stuck on used but clean bottles you find everyday at home can be effective. Borrow a few lava lamps too ...
