Ariva 120 Combo no longer compatible?

    Hi folks,

I was wondering if the 120 is now outdated as it will not pick up RTE 1 on a rescan? It never was able to do text either so I'm not too hopeful about this. The thing that makes me sick is that I got it less then 3 years ago after seeing a sign on our village street. I should have known better!

If I have to change it (and I don't want to unless there's no option), could someone recommend a decent box with Saorview and Freeview to replace it?

    Thanks!

My 120 rescanned and can get RTE1 and can still get the old teletext .

It never got and wasn't designed to get the Digital text channel.

The only problem I've had with it that it forgets the radio channels no matter how many times I scanned them back in

Thanks for that SPDUB. I forgot to mention in my original post that I am in a bad reception area so that may be the problem. Good to know that the box should work, I think I'll have to get the aerial checked, I seem to remember some discussion about the fact that it's facing towards Kippure but would perhaps be better facing towards the other transmitter, whose name I forget. I'm near Rathcoole, Co. Dublin and the hills do have an adverse effect on Dublin radio stations and Vodaphone receptions.

If it is the same box as my own , try searching for it. It might have rescanned but could be way down the channel listings e.g. In the 700's.

Once you find it, then just move the channel to where you want it. Hope this helps

The aerial could be your problem alright, use the Saorview coverage checker to see what transmitter is recommended for your location - http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

Thanks. I'm pretty sure our aerial should be aimed at Cairn Hill. Will have to get someone to get up on the roof to fix that.

Will also check through the higher channels to see if RTE 1 has moved to a new number. It does seem odd that it has disappeared, it was working, however badly, until I did a rescan.

    Thanks again.

Just to let the unwary know, after a rescan, RTE 1 had indeed moved way up around 874 so beware. It's was acting a bit funny though - the picture aspect ratio keeps changing. I'm hoping that is just a teething problem and will be sorted out.

@SPDUB. I'm wondering how you are still able to access the old text. Do you mean RTE's Aertel?

    Thanks.

By scanning for the encrypted versions of the Irish channels on satellite - they still carry old Aertel.

Thanks a million!! I've really missed the text and am delighted to get it back - you've made my day!
