Blue screen of death- could it be related to memory?

    Hi
Got the BSOD a couple of times yesterday.
Now i gather this could mean a hardware/BIOS issue, but what steps whould i take to deal with this. I've had my laptop for over three years and apart from being increasingly slow to boot up (i've a lot of programs on it tbh) it's never given me real problems.

I actually looked at my memory there and the total is less than the commit in task manager. Does this mean i need to upgrade RAM.
And could this be the cause of a BSOD.

I intend doing a system restore anyway for to outrule recent software cause and if that doesn't work a reinstall.
    Anything else i should do.
    Thanks.

You might test your RAM, maybe a diagnostic section in your BIOS setup depending on make/model, or http://www.memtest.org/

Check drivers are up to date

The amount of programs you have installed does not affect boot time, just ones that autostart every time

Scan the hard drive for errors (full surface scan)

Check integrity of system files with whatever's appropriate for your OS (Win7?)

Its more likely to be a hard drive issue than RAM, especially if your hard drive is nearly full. Do a checkdisk scan on your hard drive and run memtest86 on your RAM. Also back up your important data, this goes without saying.
