Hii! Im 21year old girl from Sweden. I will move to Ireland this summer. But my question is, where is it eaiser to get a job do you think? Where it is greater to live in for a foreigner? :)
Galway or Cork or somwhere els? :)

I lived in Ireland last year for 3months and I really loved it. But I just stayed in that small village so I know that I want to move back but dont know where. And I want to to live in a city this time. Meet alot of friendly people! :)

Probably Galway, even Irish people can't understand the denizens of Cork :pac: What sort of work would you be looking for?
    Male or female?

Is getting a job your priority? What kind of jobs would you qualify for?

Wouldn't hurt to throw Dublin into that list as well.
    Male or female?

21 year old girls tend to be female :pac:

I have a spare room if you are interested, OP.

I'm sure we could come to some mutually beneficial arrangement over the rent.

Don't bother. There are few jobs around for young people here.

You probably have a better chance of getting work in Dublin. Not sure it's the greatest place to live. Galway is nice. Personally, I'm not a fan of Cork. There are good public transport and road connections from Dublin to other parts of the country.

Get ready for people telling you all they know about Swedish culture; Ikea and Abba.

    Good luck.

You could get a job in Hewlett Packard or Intel as a Swedish speaker, they're always recruiting. They're based in Leixlip so you'd be close to Dublin. Not the best town but certainly not the worst.

Maby in a bar or in a hotel or something!

It can be tough getting work in catering/hospitality during the summer as a lot of students are after those jobs during those months. I don't blame you for not wanting to live in Dublin, but if I remember correctly from when I was looking for jobs in Cork, a lot of the call-centres around there are nearly always looking for bi-lingual staff, if you happen to speak a third language even better. Cork's not a bad place to spend a summer; the city itself is quite nice depending on where exactly you live, Kinsale, Killarney and a few other places are all within day trip distance, and everyone basically sounds like the swedish chef from the muppets anyway so you should get on grand :P

Galway is probably the friendliest city although there ain't much work here apart from catering and hotels, bar work etc, if you are a musician its a bonus as Galway is a great busking town and rich with the arts. There is a bit of a Scandinavian community in Galway already with Danes, Swedes and Norwegian folk who are part of the traditional Irish music culture as well, worth a look anyways. :)

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

I would suggest staying in Sweden if I were you, unless living in Ireland is your dream. The unemployment rate is nearly 5% lower in Sweden. I'd put your chances at finding a job in 2 months at slim to none. I know of many people who have been looking for jobs, and the job search can sometimes take years in this economy. Come to Ireland on a 2 month holiday if you want, because some parts of Ireland are very nice. But it would be a very unwise decision to move here.

If it wasn't for the work thing, I'd definitely recommend Galway over Cork. Never realised how much I missed Galway til I moved back and for a visitor to the country it's nice to be so near to Connemara, Burren, Cliffs of Moher etc. But finding work would be a problem, also it's not as much of a 'city' experience.

I've seen threads like this here before. Expect creepy PMs.

If I was you would be to look for Facebook groups called "Swedes in [city]" or something similar so that you're not totally isolated in a different country.

Also, get yourself a PPS number (I think the Swedish equivalent is the personnummer) as soon as you can.

Don't be an au pair, my girlfriend was an au pair in Ireland before for a few families and all but one tried to work her like a dog.

    Welcome to boards.ie
I see you have the same thread in a more appropriate forum so I'll close this one up before the boys get too excited.
