looking to buy a family car with automatic/petrol

hi folks
looking for your advise, what family car do you recommend (estate or suv,mpv would be a bit too big for my needs but if u have some good proposition why not) has to be petrol as I do lots of short distances,price max 8k.The reason I'm asking you is that automatic gear boxes have mix opinions so its has to be very reluctant decision. Reliability is key word in my case.

I really do like them and it does look well minded but would hardly meet the required criteria.

Would be worth looking at a Prius however if the space is adequate.
