B4 twin turbo can be prone to knacker it's big ends particularly if it's been remapped. I wouldn't buy a remapped one. They can put out stupid power.

What model engine you thinking of. Subaru forums are probably worth a gander. Only the odd subaru on here.

I mentioned this to a mate today - he said "beware the hum in the bum" i.e the rear wheel/diff bearings are weak. Any thoughts?

Not heard of it before. Wouldn't be well read up on them just a bit of experience with a mate's b4. I done a few jobs on it for him. Had problems with the rear camber plates wearing out and had to be replaced. Not much else really.

    Wow, wow, wow!
Twin turbo B4's HAVE to be mapped for Irish fuel otherwise they have a habit of blowing up!
They also like to oil surge so that's something to look out for.
The B4 'D' tends to be stronger that the A, B or C too. They all have fairly weak internals but they rolled out most if the bugs at that stage, for high octagon Jap fuel anyway. Not our "90 if you're lucky" ****e.

I was looking at buying a 09/10 subaru legacy 2.0td, but, theres hardly bloody any for sale in ireland, i only found 2!!! wtf?? How do i get one of these cars if theres none for sale?

    Theres about 1000 audi a4's, but 2 legacys? Grrrrrrrrrr:mad:

Your typical Audi A4 buyer is not really looking at the Legacy. There was also a substantial increase in price when the current model was introduced back in 2010. Subaru dealers are nearly non existent as is Subaru's marketing here.

I bought my 09 Legacy over 2 years ago. Gives very little trouble. She's well looked though. The boxer engine is A1. I'd buy one again except not a fan of the new model on looks alone that's all. Might be looking to sell soon buzzing if you want to get in touch. Although not much else out there catching my eye. The mother drives a 09 Audi... the spec on the legacy alone puts the Audi to shame.

The Legacy looks like an Avensis from the side profile.

And a face-lift Vectra from the front

    I agree.
The new estate is way too similar to the Opel Insignia.
There is nothing unusual or 'beautiful' about its design.
    Very disappointing

How is that? Do they use fixed timing/pressure maps with no on the fly adjustment? Seems a bit mad when most ECU's can do this.

Normal Jap fuel is actually 90RON, if I recall correctly. which is less than our regular. I know 100 is available, but its certainly not ubiquitous.

And to be fair, the difference between 98 and 100 is marginal. :-)

I've mine for about 2 years now (99 B4) .Dunno if I got unlucky or what but both front brakes seized within about 2 months of each other there recently, Ended up having to get new discs and pads. Apart from that just standard maintenance, Can be heavy on the juice though. Don't see to many b4 legacys around. The valley of death between turbo changeover can be a balls sometimes when passing out something

    A) Where is this 98 you speak of?

    B) A map will only adjust so far from the "centre point".... there isn't infinite adjustment. There aren't too many euro cars that would adjust themselves to make the most of Japanese high grade petrol I'd say. But you think it silly that some Japanese cars, never intended for sale here, wouldn't retard themselves to suit irish petrol???

    A) I only noticed recently that 98 seems to have disappeared from Ireland. So point taken. Throw a bottle of miller in :) UK still has Shell Nitro+ ( 98 minimum), tesco momentum is 99.

    B) If the legacy is a turbo, then the ecu can adjust the boost pressure as well as timing if it detects knock. It has no idea what ron fuel you are using - it just detects the detonation and adjusts as required. Maybe the CR of the engine is so high that it always detonates on anything less than 100 - in that case how do they range in the different boost pressures? Strange.

What i dont understand is how they would 'blow' on 95 fuel, unless they were mapped on a very narrow map, that never reduced boost pressure to prevent knock.

To be fair to the car it hasn't really cost me much, and has been hassle free. It's a enjoyable car to drive, plenty of power and smooth on the road.

Yeah, especially after the B4 and B5 which were stunning in the right spec.

I was looking at a black one as well a few years ago. I think most cars look nice in black. My Legacy is a dark grey metallic colour. Not a fan of silver cars & seems to be a few silver Legacy's for sale. Are U still on the lookout? I think the Accord is a great car as well. I test drove the Lexus 220d, BWW320d & Audi A4 before going for the Legacy.
