Have you ever tried to buy back a car that you sold?

Or has a previous owner ever tried to buy back a car they sold to you? (thread title limited by space allowed).

Reasons I've been thinking about this is the thread with the guy trying to track down his old BMW in Limerick.

Also recently the previous owner of my car contacted me wanting to buy it back again.

I suppose it's a good sign of how attached we can become to our cars :)

Wondering if it's common in Ireland with previous owners trying to buy back their old cars?

I'd buy back my astra if I could although it's probably wrecked by now though. I can't say I've herd of someone buying back a car they used to own although I'm sure there is cases.

    "I eh... wrote it off"

    Or..

"Oh sorry I broke it for parts and sold the shell for scrap"
You would actually hear his heart tearing apart and the tears gently rolling down his cheeks.

Sorry, not what you asked, but I had, a guy try the opposite with me once. I just sold him my BMW 1802 and he rang the next day to say his wife had gone mad and would I buy it back. Poor devil. I could have taken it back at a big discount but I was emigrating shortly.

I had a 1991 MK2 golf 1.8 GL with all the extra's, was a right hand drive Dutch import, really sweet car, sold it to buy a Corrado (Which I also regret selling....), years later I found out the guy I sold it to had it parked up behind his house, by the time I got in touch with him he had sold it for scrap, there was nothing wrong with it, but nobody wanted a 1.8 golf that wasn't a GTI......

there has been only one car (out of 40 something) I regret selling and wanted to buy back - my golden Lancia Kappa. Tracking the guy down wasnt difficult as he has putted it back on sale 3 months later but his asking price was also 3 times higher than the one I sold him for. Then he and car disappeard. all these years I'm still go trough all the car websites to see if it has popped up for sale again but no luck so far. Of course I could get another Kappa but that wouldn't be the same really. :)

my vitz. from the day i parted with it, i wanted it back, it was just a very suitable car for me at the time.

the following year it went up for sale by its new owner for roughly €500 more than he paid me for it. i got in touch with him but he wasn't interested in selling it for what i paid him for it and it would have been silly to pay more.

Buy back? Nah. Some end up in the yard anyway, hard to buy back a cubed car :P

How much did he sell it the second time for? €50 :) which would be about as much as any almera is worth :)

I really regret selling my E38 and would love to buy it back again. The same will probably happen if I sell my E39.
OP, out of interest, did you sell your car back to the previous owner?

I sold my 04 350Z about 6 months back and got a 335i. Almost immediately I regretted it. I seriously considered attempting to reverse the transaction. Had the BMW for a few months but was constantly on the lookout for a replacement. I'm now a happy 07 350z owner. :)

What was it you preferred about the Nissan ? 335i seems like a great all rounder

It's my mk1 Octavia vRS, the previous owner asked me if it was for sale, saying he wanted to buy it back and he even went as far as to make me an offer there and then :)

But I hadn't it up for sale then, I do now and when I contacted him to let him know that, he'd just gone and bought a different one!

I'd buy my Astra back, not because it's anything special, but because it was sweet as a nut. Not sure it'd still be the same :(

Don't think there's any of my previous cars I'd buy back although my 06 Passat was a great car over the 5 years I had it, but I'm happy with where I am now.

The 02 B5.5 Passat I had before that still looks well I think, the 1.9 TDI was bulletproof, and getting one in auto was a tough ask at the time. Preferably a better example though - I didn't know as much about buying cars as I do now (largely in thanks to this forum :))

I miss a motorcycle of mine I sold. It was pretty clean for the year but had been garaged for years. Ended up selling it to one of the motorcycle breakers. Check online a week later and it had a new changed of owner. I was the 2nd owner on it. Previous owner to me had it 9 years, I held onto it for 11 years. I hope whoever bought it fixed it up nicely. Would love to see back in top nick.

The 335i was a nice car. Stupidly fast once the turbos came on song. I hated the auto box. Didn't handle near as well as the Z either. I much prefer the noise from the Z as well. Found the BMW a bit muted and .... boring really.

Then there was the dashboard lights when the brake pads needed changing. I'm used to maintaining a car myself. Old pads out. Some copper slipped new pads in. Job done. Frickin BMW wants sensors changing, then the mileage countdown reset. Pain in the 'arris.

I asked the guy I sold my Levin to to tell me if he's selling it. Not sure if he will or if I'll want it back though!!!

The first car I ever bought was a '99 Micra and after having upgraded to a newer car I'm hoping to keep the Micra within reach by having given it to my sister on an 'extended lone'! Yeah it's a Micra but c'mon it was the first.
