I was not born in ireland, and do not have an irish citizenship. I am prety sure that i will fail my JC and LC in irish. So, will i still be able to get into UCD for computer science? Also, if i fail the Junior cert in 1 subject (Irish), Will i be able to do my Leaving Cert in all other subjects?

Try get exempt from the subject. I'm not sure if the DARE scheme applies here but it might be worth looking into.

Also, if you fail Irish you fail your leaving cert, so if you can't get exempt I'd advise dropping to pass after the JC and ensure you pass that OL exam, which isn't all too bad!

If you are not born in Ireland you will get an NUI exemption. This means you won't need Irish for their entry requirements. This is not the same as getting an exemption from it in school, so you may still have to attend classes (I know, it's mad). You don't have to sit the exam.

You will (guessing from your username) have Polish (?) in your Leaving Certificate and that will count as your language requirement.
If you fail Irish you do not fail your LC. That went out years ago and as a person born outside Ireland, NUI colleges including UCD will not require you to have it.

The above is presuming you are an EU citizen - again, just going on your username.

Seriously? I thought if you failed English, Irish or Maths you fail the whole thing? :o

No. You may not get into some college courses, but there is no such thing anymore as 'failing the Leaving'. I know it was there in my mother's day, but that was the 1950s. It was gone when I did the Leaving. Today, LC standard is taken as 5 passes at any level of any combination of subjects.

Oh people (teachers mainly) still say things like 'if you don't do xyz you will fail the Leaving' but from the SEC's point of view there is no such thing.

Also, if you have the minumum requirements, does UCD ussually accept you into the university? If not, what is the acceptence rate?

If you look at the course you want, you will see a 'points' requirement. That is the lowest amount of points that anyone was accepted on last year.

The minimum requirements might be a couple of honours and passes, but the actual lowest scoring candidate could have a very high number of points, depending on how popular the course is.

ITs and universities outside Dublin often have the same courses at lower points, not because the courses are lower standard, but because the number of people applying for them is lower.
