    Hi

Trying to sort a problem for an eldery relative, need your expertise and assistance please .

She was watching tv on her saorview tv today , then the sound went on rte .
I done a couple of retunes, all the channels come back including all the english channels ( and some bonus channels such as E4 etc etc as we live close enough to receive the signal )
Everything working fine , except RTE1, RTE2, T3, 3E, no sound but picture is there.
    Rte news has sound.
I live next door and my tv's are fine.

    Any ideas ?
    Thanks a lot,

Are there any audio or AD (audio description) buttons on the r/c, if so try adjusting the settings or switching AD off.

My own plays up and fiddling with the scart lead at either end gets it back to good order. Simple yes but worth a try

Great, thanks all for your replies and help

Problem solved , AD button found and sound back on the TV.
Something so simple, fiddled a bit with the settings, job done.
I learn something new every day.

It still begs the questions of why the heck RTÉ don't put some audio on the channels

RTÉ published a tender back in Sept for the infrastructure to support the broadcast of AD content.

Most channels still carry audio on the NAR channel even without the actual AD. How many times have we seen people such as the OP suddenly finding no sound and getting needlessly worried? I also wonder how many cowboy installers have charged to call out and "fix" this fault?

Or else kill these silent AD audio channels and just leave the one audio channel (as is currently the case with RTE NEWS NOW)

I assume the AD audio channels can be just removed without causing problems such as needing retunes ?

They could be re-enabled in the future if-and-when the TV channel decides to actually introduce Audio Descriptor, if viewers hear actual descriptor audio they will soon cop they pressed some button on their remote, it's a lot more confusing when the result is silence.

I have not come across any UK channels (on satellite) with silent AD tracks, either it is there WITH AUDIO, or not there at all.

    BTW
Some STBs revert to the normal main audio if the box is turned off and back on (which is preferrable) - whilst other boxes do not.
