Declaring car off the road using PIN

This page, Q1, http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/QA-DeclaringaVehicleOffTheRoad/ says that I can "declare your vehicle off the road at Motor Tax Online website (external link) using the PIN issued to you with your renewal notice."

I had a look there, and couldn't find anywhere to do it. When I went through the usual if I was renewing, I went all the way to the page where I have to select the 3, 6 or 12 months for renewal, so it looks like that's not the way to do it.

Is it possible to do this online at all?

when you enter motortax.ie on the bottom of the page you will see this:

DECLARING A VEHICLE TEMPORARILY OFF THE ROAD
If you wish to declare your vehicle temporarily off the road please

Hence though, that if you want to return car on the road later, you won't be able to pay tax online. You will have to go to motortax office in person.

It is some alternative, but takes long time I'd guess.

Q9 on the page I linked in the first post says that there will be a renewal notice near the end of the declared period, so they may issue a renewal PIN at that time to allow online payment, or make a new declaration (Q10).

Anything outside of that would require a trip to the motor tax office (Q11) as you said.

Interesting, my car is declared off the road for another 3 months, so am I right in understanding if I want to declare it off the road for a further period then I have to go into a motor tax office?

    Could be right.
I declared vehicle online for 12 months.
I tried to tax it online after 3, but it was impossible. Had to run to motortax office.

Possibly indeed after whole declared period lasts, you can tax it online then (or declare further).

    You'd hope not ;)

Anyway - according to what macwal says you should be able to declare it off the road for another period online.
Once you check this out, let us know.
