Can anyone advise as to what affect putting the wrong/under sized catalytic convertor on a car would have? Is there anymore to it than causing emissions to be too high.

A certain garage did this with my wifes golf, put one for a mini on it. It failed the NCT last week on emission. She's since taken it to 2 garages since which have confirmed this issue.

Just want to have my facts straight when demanding the money back for her.

    Thanks in advance

So they welded in a car of a mini must of being second hand. Why even bother if ur going to that much hassle why not fit the right one. Always heard of universal cats but fitting one off a mini to a golf that's totally stupied

Well it's not totally stupid, both cars are similar size and possibly have similar size engines so they possibly thought it might do the trick. OP was it a new cat or a second hand one?

A new one should have worked ok but the trouble with second hand cats is that you don't know what life they've had, how long they've laid up for or why they were removed in the first place.

I suggest you go back to where ever fitted it and get them to remove it and refund you or else get a proper cat for your car.

Must have been from a BMW mini as I don't think the original mini had one

Sorry apologies was a universal bozal cat apparently but second garage said it was fit for a micro not mini. Hence the undersized comment.
