They were searching for two missing people

Great shots, much better than my attempts.

Only got there just as 112 were leaving. Would have loved to witness the musical chairs.

Sligo heli back in this evening I think. Went south over Tuam around half six.

Fantastic service by Sligo heli and 112. I'd love to get a look around either machine

Is there a reason why the Irish flag is back-to-front in the first picture?

You have to imagine the Aircraft as a Flagpole, The green is always at the pole end of the flag pole so in essence the helicopter is "flying the flag".

Like the 'backwards' flag on US military uniforms, its sort of flowing back in the wind

The convention is that flags are displayed left to right when painted or illustrated and that's what we're used to seeing. But the protocol for aircraft was changed so that the flag appears to be flying in the wind behind the aircraft.

But you can see differences, Aer Lingus display their flag left to right, orange to the front on the right side of the aircraft but Ryanair have theirs the other way round.

The US military flag patch is that way to indicate going forward rather than retreating. The US take their flag rules rather seriously.
