Possible power cable interference - satellite dish

    The site in question is on high ground with no visible obstacles. The dish is a triax td54. Big enough to provide an adequate reception but not so big as to be affected by the extreme weather we get here.
    I cannot seem to get an adequate alignment on Astra 28.2. Using a horizon sat meter I'm peaking at 20, 11, 80, 50
    As opposed to 70, 65, 100, 100 (the usual vh, hh, vl, hl)
    I'd be confident from regular use that my meter is working ok.
    I tried another quad Lnb and readings were consistent.
    Running within 40m of the dish are heavy duty power lines. The ground falls towards them so their height is not the issue, their tops are almost at the same level as the dish. They carry power down the hill to a pump station on a lake which services a few thousand people with their water supply. Not sure if 1phase or 3.
    I've never come across a similar signal situation, thanks in advance for any possible help.

    If you are seeing the sat then you should be getting a good and adeqete signal and quality level,interference from the power lines should not be an issue....cable length back to ur reciever if over 40mtrs can attenuate the signal from the lnb's down converter..if this so try an inline amplifier on the cable back to the sat box...put it about 6 -12inches after the lnb...one for each output on multi lnb's...they sell for about €25 in maplin or €5 online @tvtrade.ie..hope this may be of some help....3gqb

    Put an oscilloscope on it and see how high it is

    Have you tried a different dish? Even just for test purposes.

    It's quite possible that the parabola has been warped slightly out of shape by high winds and causing signals not to focus onto the LNB properly. It's something I've come across before.

    The cable runs are pretty standard and have no bearing. The signal levels at the dish are abnormally low.

    I'm very confused at this stage. I've set hundreds of dishes in the last 13yrs and never encountered anything similar.

    The dish is new and perfectly parabolic

    Even though you state the dish is new, i would still try another dish just to see if you are again getting similar readings...have had a similar problem recently and turned out to be the dish in the end when I really didn't want to believe it would be

    I had a similar problem, on roof of a shopping centre, all kinds of electrical equipment around, tried different lnb's, 3 different meters.
    Tried different dish and there it was!

    i had a similar problem with a triax dish,i found that it was a td 54 and after a while i found that the aluminium arm that holds the lnb was for a triax td64,it was a longer arm and as a result the lnb was not at the focal point,hope this helps.

    I had same problem one time and it turned out to be the dish that was at fault even though it looked perfect
