    Hi everyone,

I have been employed by the HSE as a psychologist for last few years as a Basic Grade. I have been offered a job outside of the HSE. This opportunity would offer a promotion which currently are few and far between in the HSE but is only a two year contract. Does anyone know if you leave the HSE can you reapply through their panel process down the line? I don't want
to exclude myself from the HSE for the rest of my career on the basis of two year contract!

    Many thanks,

Have you asked if you can have Leave of Absense?

Thanks for your response. A leave of absence is not possible unfortunately.

    Thanks

Not even justified on the grounds of the new exciting important experience you'll gain, stuff you'll learn etc etc? Might be called something else - career break?

The way the HSE is going I'd be reluctant to resign - it is secure employment. But on the other hand they are going over to psychological models much more so employment may increase in the future. Depends on age, interests, etc etc.

    Hi JC,

Thanks for your response. What I am trying to determine however is if I can reapply for a job with HSE if I resign?

Do you or anyone else know this.

    Many thanks,

    J

As far as I know you can apply on an equal footing with recent graduates. The issue is more whether there will be a new recruitment process in the time frame that would suit you. Occasionally the HSE will have recruitment competitons for promotion grades that are restricted to current employees. I dont know if this happens with psychology. In relation to career breaks I think most of these schemes specifically prevent people taking up posts in HSE funded organisations.

You should be able to reapply, but as bisset said, you could be waiting a while. Someone in HR should be able to tell you exactly where you stand.
