    Hi

Sorry bit of a long one ! Im working and looking after my husband who has been sick with colon cancer and has recently had a colostomy which is going to be permanent and looking after my father who has lots of medical problems including poor mobility and now kidney failure. This will mean lots of long journeys for dialysis. My question is I have been working lots of overtime to pay the mortgage and all the other bills but now I have been told my husband who had to give up work is not entitled to any form of benefit and has had his medical card taken away, and my father is entitled to just 20euro a week welfare as he has a small pension and they have said he is entitled to live on 160euro a week. So now my wage has to support my husband father and my family I just don't think I can work enough hours and my overtime is running out :( is there any benefits that I might be entitled too and im not aware of??? Im going to have to take holidays and time off to get my dad to dialysis and my husband is still waiting for more operations that without a medical card Im not sure how Im going to pay for :( any advice is great thanks :confused:

The only advice I can give you is to appeal the Medical Card refusal. Get your GP to write a letter outlining the seriousness of your husbands illness.

Your husband should apply for illness benefit and if he has exhausted this then he should apply for invalidity pension thats assuming he was a paye worker.
