Religion Inspector?

    Hi Guys,

I have a question and I'm wondering if any other parents in Catholic schools can help me. Little Kiwi's teacher took me aside at pick up time today and told me that they have a 'Religion Inspector' coming to the school in two weeks time. This 'inspector' will apparently be talking to the Junior Infants and the teacher asked did I want him taken out for the period they are there. I was in a rush and had no time to ask questions so I said I'll get back to her tomorrow. I will clarify with the school tomorrow, but would like opinions from you guys, as I feel the school tend to downplay the religious aspect around me. Does anyone know what exactly is a 'Religion Inspector' and why would they be talking to Junior Infants? Surely they won't be questioning 5 year olds about knowledge of Catholcism? Has anyone else struck this one before?

It's the diocesan inspector, she will just be checking that each class has a sacred space etc..what generally happens is she might ask the class could they tell her a story from the bible and maybe sing her a song from the alive-o programme.

I'm sure if you guys think hard enough (or softly) you'll come up with something for this duplicate thread. Put some effort into it and work together the world is your oyster!

I'm sure the inspector is there to confirm that the children are being correctly taught church doctrine, but that they are not being indoctrinated.

    Teaching doctrine: Good!

    Indoctrination: Bad!

Errrrrr sorry Jernal. I didn't see that I'd done that. I think that might have happened accidentally when I edited some bad grammar. Do you mind merging them for me? Pretty please! You have the power and I am sadly lacking ;)

How much does a religion inspector get paid?

Great job though - where do I apply?

Can you only inspect your own religions?

Hmmm, what happened my reply? I thought I put it in the duplicate thread? Or is this the duplicate?

If I were a religion inspector about 97% of Irish school would get a big fat fail!

You've nothing to worry about OP. They DO NOT go around asking the kids deep philosophical questions about Catholicism. Its more for the teachers and to see how the school is run, you cant call yourself a Catholic school and then teach Islam. I think it was very considerate of the teacher to give you the choice to take Kiwi Jnr out for that period.

Would the inspector be checking to see if any teachers are gay as part of that work?

I'm worried now the thread inspector won't approve of our actions. :(

I don't mean to take away from Little Kiwi's teacher by saying this as she appears to be a very kind, considerate person, however in this instance it is not so much a case of consideration, but necessity in an area where there is no state funded school (or any school for that matter) which is suitable for children from families of all faiths and none!

    What is that test again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

    What is that test again?

    [male version]
They ask you to check your nails.

If you partially close your fist and look at them then you're straight.
If you stretch your fingers outward and bend them back you're gay.

You're replying to someone whose gaydar is legendarily bad so I'd love to know meself ;)

But seeing as they can still sack teachers for that in these schools, I'd be curious if that was something on their list.

If you fail the gay test can you take it again??

Of course. You can always change your mind on whether you're gay or not.

    Hmmm, I'm gay.

    I must tell the wife.

Well sitting through the 'Religion Inspector' visit sounds like an entirely worthless, waste of Little Kiwi's time. I think he can have that afternoon off and we will do something nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,063 ✭✭✭Kiwi in IE

I did wonder fleetingly if it was something state driven rather than church driven where a 'Religion Inspector' comes to schools to see how they manage children from families of other religions and none. Then I woke up. Of course it is to see how well the little 'Catholics' are being indoctrinated!

Does "failing a gay test" mean that you're gay or straight?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,442 ✭✭✭Sulla Felix

Depends on who's administering it. If it's the global homosexual conspiracy, then failure means your straight. If it's your local evangelical christian pastor, it means you're gay, and you should see him after church. :o

Reminds me of this old chestnut:

Kid: Would you give me detention for something I didn't do?
    Teacher: No, not at all!
Kid: Grand. I didn't do my homework.

It's indoctrination whichever way you cut it.
