    I Want to swap my Shimano 105 5600 Double 10sp Chainset - 170mm - 52.39t Silver for a Shimano 105 Compact 10sp Chainset - 170mm - 50.34t

    Less than 1000km done.

Have increased my average cadence and find the double gearing little to high for me.

Might be interested in this - what colour is the crankset? Have a black one which hasn't been used much.

    Hi Brasshead,

Sorry i haven't got back before now. The double is silver as described in the first post.
I've gone and bought a 10 speed cassette (12-30 teeth & new chain) to replace my (11-25 teeth). I'm going to see if this solves the problem before i look into a swap.

    Thanks for your interest.

I would have thought that a 30t rear sprocket will be too tall for the 5600 rear derailleur to shift...?
You'll also need to increase your chain length/buy a new one - whereas changing the crankset to a compact would result in the opposite (shortening the chain) and will also require you to re-position the front derailleur down the seat-tube

I've heard a couple of conflicting reports regarding a 30 teeth running on a 105 (5700) rear derailleur. I've heard it's possible with a little adjustment of the B-tension screw. I've bought a new chain as the old one was due a change.

I'll let you know how i get with the modification.

    Regards

Well it works!!! had to make a little adjustment to the B-tension screw but it works. I had a little help from a page on Sheldon Brown website.
