Tax return status & Med1

I am married but when completing my tax returns I continued to select the optionfor "Single Treatment". My husband and I both work and I don't believe we would benefit from being taxed together so I do so rather than having to make any other changes to my returns.
I am completing a Med1 now and am wondering if I can include my husbands medical expenses on the same form as mine - i.e. does the status on my tax returns have a bearing on whether I can complete the Med1 for both of us?

If you are separately assessed you are separately assessed so you cannot claim your spouses medical expenses.

Unless you have paid for these on his behalf
