I will be honest my mind is a little scattered and I can't figure this out. If I sign up for sky broadband does it change my sky package? I ask as I have an ancient package from like 14 years ago and I get everything except movies :D

No, it wont change anything to do with your Sky TV package.

While you will get one single bill for everything the two items (TV and BB) are separate as such. For example you could cancel you TV sub and retain the BB/phone package.

This sounds perfect, it is actually for my mothers house. I tried to get sky here but too expensive lol. I have to look into how it actually works. How long it takes to set up etc

I think the broadband should be up and running within a couple of weeks at the most. At least that was the time scale when I got it.

You can sign up online afaik (they will call you in any event) or by telephone. Bank details etc have to confirmed together with universal account number. Then Sky send out the hub and several days after that you should be good to go.

If there is an existing broadband/telephone account with another provider just check to ensure they dont require a cancellation notice although Sky normally look after all that if changing from another provider to them if you are out of contract.

Oh wait do you have to change the phone line as well? She also has the old package from BT, the one brought over to her current SP which has UK and IRE free calls lol. Could it just be added on to sky but not interfere with her phone I wonder 0.0

I think you will need to look into this a bit further. The details are all on Sky's web site. :)

Dont worry The Sky call pack includes "free calls" to Ireland & UK and loads of other countries as far away as USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc.

Personally I think their broadband and call package is the best value around for standard everyday use

As a former Sky broadband customer my advice is to stay well away from them as they have hardly any bandwidth. When I had Sky Broadband before I was getting 8mb/s from 1am to 9am and then 1 to 3mb/s during the day and around 0.5mb/s to 1.5mb/s from about 4-5pm in the evening until after midnight and 0.5mb/s to 1.5mb/s all day on weekends. The upload was 0.3mb/s at its best and 0.1mb/s at the worst.

Sky have no bandwidth and are totally congested/contended, I was paying €27.50/month (special Introductory offer as a Sky TV customer back in January 2013 before it even launched). And for this €27.50 I was getting unlimited broadband, line rental with unlimited local & national and international calls to 20 countries. The price was good but Sky's broadband service was total and utter crap.

I since moved to Vodafone Home Extra for €47.50/month, get unlimted local and national landline calls and 100 minutes to either certain International destinations or to Vodafone Mobiles. However more importantly I now have 13mb/s continuous rock solid download speed 24/7 - 365 and no more contention or evening slow downs. I have 1mb/s upload also with Vodafone.

If price is important then Sky may suit but if service is what is important then stay well away from Sky as they are to Landline as what Three are to mobile.

Thank you for being so candid, aye the service is important. That is exactly what I fear and I thank you for telling me about it!!

You obviously had a bad experience as no doubt others would have had. But bear in mind that for every single customer experiencing problems with any provider there are probably 100 more who haven't encountered any issues. So its a wee bit unfair to post the above comments as they are not representative of what every Sky customer experienced.

On the flip side of the above I was previously with VF and the best speed they could give me was 7mb down. After moving to Sky (just like yourself) in Jan. 2013 I immediately got speeds of around 12mb - 13mb and have stayed like that since. Personally I couldnt recommend them (Sky) highly enough and Im sure Im not alone in that regard.
