Hi guys, thinking of going to UCD next year and struggling to decide between campus and private accommodation.

Can I book campus accommodation and specify that I want to share with a friend or two? Will they accommodate me? Sorry, excuse the pun! :P

If you mean share as in share a room together, then no.

Otherwise, there's no way of organising so that they put you in the same apartment, you just have to be sure to book two different rooms in the same apartment when the booking opens. It's tricky, because rooms go very quickly, but it's do-able.

Also, is it first come first serve or do they select randomly?

    First come, first serve.

You're probably better off having two separate apartments in the same place anyway, you'd be a minute walk from each others house and have more property.

Okay thanks for the help guys. So do you think I should go for campus or private?
    Here's my thinking...
    House Pros:
    stay with friends
    more privacy
    more space/facilities

    Campus Pros:
get to know loads of people
have access to halls recreational actvities
get up for lectures only a few minutes beforehand! :)

    House Pros:
get to know loads of people (Socs, Class Parties)
    stay with friends
    more privacy
    more space/facilities

    Campus Pros:
get to know loads of people
have access to halls recreational actvities (Not a big deal in my eyes)
get up for lectures only a few minutes beforehand! (Depends where you live and how far to your building. Definitely not worth extra rent)

I'd move some of them around to be honest. Staying on campus is vastly more expensive though. I'd urge you to try get a house with some mates. You can literally do what you like, have parties when you like and come and go as you please.

House share beats on-campus nine times out of 10. The only time I'd recommend going for on-campus is if for whatever reason you're not able to sort a house (can't get to Dublin to househunt, insufficient mates, can't find a place, etc.)
