What is the Irish language version of the name "Shona"?

    Thanks!

I think Shona is a scottish name and I do not think that there is an irish version of it but i could be wrong.

Shóna (spelling is variable) is allegedly of Irish origin but there is nothing to support that really other than some loose connection with either the name Jane or Shauna.

To be honest, translating names to and from other languages is always a dubious affair. It is also why there are so many variants in different languages of what probably started out as the same name.

John --> Seán, Johannes, Ian, Ewan, Eoghan, João, Giovanni etc. Shóna is no different is just another variant of an approximation of Jane that is given a Celtic origin because there are similar words.

I read somewhere that the Scottish Gaelic version of Shona is "Seònaidh" or maybe "Seònaig".

I wonder could you try something like "Seónaidh" or "Sióna" or "Seána" in Irish?

I think its Seona. Sound exactly the same. I know two Shona's who were Seona at school because all first names had to be in irish for the school roll. E.g Emer is Eimear.
