Gloss Black Finish for Shelving unit

I'm currently making a shelving unit, mostly done, and am researching what finish to put on it. Hi all, these may be better suited to one of the other Home&Garden forums, but maybe here is just fine too.

I'm currently making a shelving unit, mostly done, and am researching what finish to put on it.
What i'd like to do is have solid black glossy look, but I'm not sure what the best approach to take in order to achieve this is as I'm not well read on the matter nor do I have much experience at all when it comes to paints and finishes.

Whatever help you can offer would be much appreciated.

I used Toplac made by international and just 5% white spirits to thin it.

Thanks very much, i'm coming across lots of similar technique info in my research, but not a lot of info on the paints being used strangely enough.
