CRS appointment coming up

    Hello everyone,

my fiancé and I have our appoinment soon to register our intent to marry but here's the problem - we don't have all our documents together. I know I should have waited until we had the docs in hand before even booking an appointment but we thought we'd have them in time and also, we are really pressed for time if we have to give three months notice and get married on the date we'd like.

You see we had to send off for our passports so that means we don't have passports or our birth certs (because we needed to send those off to the passport office). Is there any point in keeping the appointment? I have rang the office but not gotten through to anyone yet to ask so I thought I'd ask people here for their opinions/experience while I'm waiting to get an official answer.

We might just have to reschedule our appointment for when we do have all our docs and this means we'll almost certainly be too late for the date we'd like but that's not the end of the world obviously, it'd just be nice if we could do it.

So. while we're waiting to hear from the official powers-that-be, does anyone here who's been through the process know/think we might be able to go ahead and give our three months notice as planned (even without all the required documents) and pass on the passports and birth certs a week or two after this appointment? (It reallly shouldn't take longer than that).

If I can't get in touch with anyone to cancel/reschedule then we'll go in anyway, otherwise we'd be "no-shows" but I guess they might just send us away and say "We'll talk about giving you a date when you give us all the documentation".

Thanks to anyone who can help.

We didn't have our birth certs with us when we registered. They were able to find them for us on the system as we were both registered (when born) in Ireland. They may be able to do that for you too, if your circumstances are similar. They may also be able to facilitate your dropping your passport into them when you get it back (Im not sure about this as we had them to hand, but they did seem to be easy enough about changing our information at a later date, so they may be cool about it). Make sure you have everything else they require (details of witnesses, utility bills/statements to your address etc).

You may as well chance it, rather than missing out on the date you want.

Yes, I had heard of people going in without one or two docs but we were worried because passports and birth certs would probably be very important and we have neither! But we have drivers licences and also copies of our birth certs. I know that a copy won't be good enough but maybe it would be okay until we get our originals back. There's only one way to know for sure so I will keep trying to contact the office.

Thanks for your reply berrecka :)

Now we havent gone to out meeting yet but have to say i was well impressed with the Corks office reply to emails and queries. Have you tried emailing crs@hse.ie this was the email address I was given to ask any question to or to make an appointment. Might be worth a shot they were back to me either that day or early the next with any questions we had.

Id would think if it is a case of ye do not have all the info now that ye could drop it in later to them or like that just cancel until a later date. I had to do that with ours just so I knew we would have the reg fee and it was grand no telling off for cancelling the appointment. best of luck

Hi Milly, it's Tullamore we're going to and I have the phone number for the registrar lady but thanks for replying.

We're hoping to not have to cancel so that we might be able to get the date we'd like. We have to give three months notice so if we have to re-arrange the appointment for a few weeks later it'll be less than three months before our (intended) date.

Of course we might have to cancel and take a later date for getting married but we'd like to avoid it if we could. Sure we could go in wth all the info they need and they could still say "I'm sorry but we've no availability on that date" but it's a Monday we're looking at so hopefully we're in with a good chance! Best of luck for your own meeting Milly.

We didn't have all our docs at our appointment as I was waiting for an apostille for my Birth cert. The date of our registration of intent to marry was still that first appointment, which like you I just wanted to be confirmed. The only thing was that we still had to go in together at the same time once we had all the documents to sign the forms.
