Mondeo guzzling oil

Just wondering has anyone had similar problems. Car is an 05 duratec 1.8 petrol and it's going through a lot of oil.
I've read up a good bit on this and some of the culprits are the pcv valve which I have checked and it was fine. The oil control rings are now the culprit but surely if that was the case I would get some blue smoke out the exhaust. Going to do a compression test when I get the chance. The engine runs smoothly and only has 70k miles on it.
No leaks either. I changed the oil 3 months ago.

Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas that I might be missing.

    Thanks

I had a 02 with same engine. It guzzled oil, nothing wrong with the engine, just guzzled oil. I would expect to put lots of oil in any 9 year old 1.8 petrol especially if it was the Duratec engine.
