Just wondering at what age would u give calves their first worms dose. I have calves out last couple weeks with access to a straw bedded shed with meal and hay. I've noticed good few of them grazing over the last few days and it got me thinking about dosing programme.
Also what products do you use.?

I think they'd probably need a dose 3 weeks after going to grass.

I always use levacide injection for the first treatment at 3/4 months old and paramectin injection every 6/8 weeks after that along with vaccination against pneumonia before weaning. I find this works well.

levacide dose works well for us on calves and it is very reasonable too.

Bimectin is a generic Ivomec as is Turbomec, Animec paramectin etc. All are the same. A few thing about using them injection is better than pour on as pour on can be licked off by other cattle or be prevented from absorption by dirt or dust on the animals back. Make sure you inject for right weight, if you think an animal is 100ish kgs inject as 150kgs.

For bucket fed calves I would inject with an ivermectin 4-6 weeks after going to grass and again 6-8 weeks later. Wear nitrile/latex gloves when handling ivermectins

would use a white dose here on 3 wks and follow with an ivermectin 3 wks later . a rapid dying off of worms and coughing up can cause pneumonia in young calves with the ivermectins if used first off

It is more of an issue with sucklers that with bucket fed calves. If bucket fed calves are done at 4-6 weeks after going to grass there should not be a build up of lungworms so they should not be under strass. different issue if they were out for 3 months before being dosed. You could use levacide injection it is similar to a white dose.

Make sure your weights are right with levacide though.... After effects otherwise are supposed to be entertaining but worrying

Any one use zearl or doromectin product to mix it up from ivermectin?
