Two upcoming crowd-funded sci-fi/space games that look totally incredible.
And both of them are modern editions of classics.

Initially i was leaning toward Elite:Dangerous just based on the videos, but having played some WingCommander I can't miss out on Star Citizen.

I might have to get the both..

Hard one to call as I like/love both these type of games and they're both ambitious too.

For what it's worth, I've backed Star Citizen.
It will be cutting-edge stuff as it's using CryEngine, Psychical Based Rendering and advanced AI technology (Kythera).
So that means you'll probably need a pretty decent CPU/GPU to run it well.
The down-side with Star Citizen is milestones are likely to be pushed back, dog-fighting module is 4 months late (for good reasons, though).

However Elite:Dangerous looks awesome and it's Alpha is playable right now, unlike Star Citizen.
PC specs required are a fairly standard 2GHz Quad CPU & 1GB GPU DX10/11 card.

Well seeing as one is scheduled for release around Nov this year and the other will be lucky to see a release in 2015, I don't think you'll have to worry about being able to afford both. The whole "one or the other" and fanboy thing going on between them is a bit ridiculous.

They both look fantastic and will be getting both. The social MMO side of Star citizen looks very interesting too.

I think most people want both to do well and with the Oculus Rift coming out there is certainly room for both...and don't forget Eve: Valkyrie too!

    I've backed star citizen.

The concept is brilliant and on paper, it ticks all the boxes for me that aren't in Eve.

But i am a little miffed at the umpteen million packages/subscriber packs/backer badges/etc and the miles and miles of fiction, story telling and meet the crew sessions.
Months and months of contests to build 1 or 2 ships is ridiculous too.
At the current pace of development, it will likely be years before we get to a finished game.

Elite will corner the market if RSI don't stop putting so much effort in the story telling and start coding the ****ing thing.
A year+ of development, 40+million in contributions and they have a hanger to show for it. Well done
