hi - a friend is receiving jobseekers allowance of 188.00 per week, no other benefits. She has been offered a part time job, 4 hours a day for five days Monday to Friday. Her pay will be €200.00 per week. Would she be entitled to retain some of her jobseekers, and if so, how much?

even though it is only 20 hours? working three days could amount to 24 hours, and a person can still claim 3 days jobseekers??? this does not seem right

mp22 is correct. Its days not hours. If you work more than 3 days you get nothing and if you work 3 x 12 hour shifts you get nothing.

Can anyone explain why its limited to 3 days. I'v posted on Boards & other fora previously about this apparent anomoly. Whats the difference between working 20 hours over 5 days and over 3 days. The OP's friend is effectively been penalised for getting off the dole queue:mad:.

You need to contact the Ministers office to get this information.

Kristopherus from an administrative point of view it would be impossible to administer casual claims on an hourly work basis. Casual claims are fairly complex to administer now just doing it the way it is currently set up. JSB has a different week to JSA and neither operate from Sunday to Saturday which is a normal working week.

The query does not relate to casual work, it's set hours part time work 5 days a week. Effectively if u work an hour a day for 5 days a week, u are not entitled to job seekers.

Correct if you work more than 3 days you receive nothing from SW. I must apologise myself and Kristopherus took the discussion slightly off topic.

It also goes by what shes earning and its more than her jobseekers payment so she wont be entitled to jobseekers

Whether she was working one hour a day or five hours a day she would still be entitled to nothing

Thanks Eastbono, she has emailed the welfare, maybe they will take into consideration that she is unemployed 15 months, that scheme is good and it should be promoted. Very helpful advice, so thank you!

Ps I got wages wrong, she would be paid 175.00 a week, 13.00 less than job seekers

No problem. Its unlikely the rules will be unrestricted. Local Offices can only work on the rules.

Your friend would be mad to take this job. They would be better off on Job bridge(slavebridge) than that.

Your friend may qualify for the PArt Time Job Incentive Scheme depending on her circumstance.

    http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Part-Time-Job-Incentive-Scheme.aspx

    Extract of conditions below.

    Qualifying Conditions in Detail:
    The person must

1.have been fully unemployed and in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance at the long-term rate prior to commencing on the Part-Time Job Incentive scheme,
2.have been in receipt of a higher jobseeker's payment than the appropriate Part-Time Job Incentive supplement payable,
3.undertake to remain on the scheme for at least two months.
4.not be in receipt of another Social Welfare payment, other than one which is not included in section 209 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (as amended), and
5.not be in receipt of any other allowance or an allowance in respect of a course of education, training and development.
    The job must

1.be insurable under the Social Welfare Acts at class A or J rate of contribution, and
2.involve working for less than 24 hours per week. A person may have one or more jobs, provided the jobs meet the stated criteria and the total number of hours weekly is less than 24.
Smallholders or self-employed persons are not permitted to take part in the scheme.

    Hope it helps.
