Why is INTO so expensive to be a member?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but a search revealed nothing.

As stated in the thread title, I'd like to know why the INTO is so expensive to be a member? I pay just over €13 a fortnight and, as far as I can see, receive absolutely nothing in return.

That works out at over €300 per annum.

I simply cannot understand what sort of administration and negotiations on our behalf would swallow up that amount of money from each member. I'd love to be told differently, but I can only see it being spent on ridiculous salaries for union middle and upper management.

I understand that in the event of a legal dispute they look after legal fees etc. but outside of this happening I can't see any other use for the INTO. And realistically the chance of this happening are not high enough to warrant me paying €300 a year as an insurance policy.

So, do you pay? And if so, how do you justify it? What do you get from it that makes it worth that sort of money, realistically?

Do they not publish their accounts annually?
The breakdown will be in there.

Any worker would be very foolish not to join their trade union. The generations of workers who went before us fought long and hard for the working conditions that we now take for granted.
Our union is the only one who will represent our concerns, worries etc. The INTO sub we pay is money well spent. My advice is join up and go to meetings etc and you will soon realise how good the INTO really is. Try it for one year and see how it goes. You will never regret it.
