advice on hardware for live performance

    I play in a band and we'd like to bring an electronic element to our live performance (we have no drummer or percussion at present).

    we are thinking of a piece of kit which can incorporate drums/beats/synth sounds that we can play live and also pre-programme.

    Excuse my ignorance but I don't know where to start as there is so much equipment out there. Any advice on where to start for a novice and where to buy?
