What Law do sporting clubs have to follow ?
Do they have to have an AGM, who can see their accounts.

The sporting association relevant to the sport you will be playing should be able to give you all of those details. E.g, GAA, FAI etc.

The law isn't really bothered about sporting and recreational clubs unless they want to either (1) own property in which case they will need to have trustees or (2) serve alcohol in the clubhouse in which case they must become a registered club under the Registration of Clubs Act 1904, any solicitor can advise you on the process.

What coylemj says is correct. Having said that, it's not unusual for sports clubs to incorporate under the Companies Acts (usually as companies limited by guarantee) in order to, e.g., avoid the risk of personal liablity. And if a club does that, then naturally it has to comply with Companies Act requirements regarding accounts, governance, etc.

Do they have to have an AGM every year and where does my son stand being under 18, do I have a say in anything.
The problem really is we pay a membership fee of 140 Euro for my son. When they travel away we the parents bring the kids so they have no transport costs. When they play at home we pay for the referee so they have no outlay.
They have not held an AGM in years and they will not show the accounts to anybody.
Supposedly they made 300,000 as a clause to one of there ex players moving from one premiership team to another.
The main gripe is the 140 Euro as I feel this is extravagant compared to 25 Euro for the local gaa club and 20 Euro for the local rugby club. Any thoughts ?

If it's any consolation, the international cycling federation (UCI) based in Switzerland (which was previously headed up by our fellow countryman Pat McQuaid) managed to operate the same way for years.

When a member of the central committee had the nerve to stand against McQuaid for election as president and asked him to reveal details of his salary and expenses, he was denied access to the information.......

Pat McQuaid repeatedly refused requests to disclose his salary when he was president of the UCI, even denying cycling governing body’s own management committee that information.

You'd need to look at the rules/constitution of the club. Unless they have registered under the Companies Acts these things are largely unregulated.
