I am driving a Renault megane 1.4 L 16 v petrol. The car is 13 years old. At the moment I am getting around 35 miles to the gallon. Should i be getting more miles per gallon or does this sound about right for this model.

Depends on the type of driving you are doing - I had the same car, and doing only "extreme urban driving" (read: a traffic light every 150 meters), it never did more than 27-28 mpg. On the open road, however, it would average about 38 with normal driving (120-130 kph), up to 40 if I drove slower.

So all in all, 35 looks definitely OK if you're doing mixed journeys - mostly on open roads and a bit of city driving.

That said, I have no doubt many here will tell you something's wrong with the car, because their 2.5 V6s do 237 MPG in the rush hour traffic :D

Most of my driving would be on open roads and a bit of driving in town. Sounds about right then 35MPG.

Had one and on open roads it was doing 40+

at 100hph I was getting about 43mpg and thought it was impressive.
    Obviously much less in city

Check your tyres are correctly inflated and air filter is clean.

Had a similar engine in an older Clio. That's about right. I used to get ~40mpg on a combined country/m'way/city driving.

Sounds about right. About average if your reading off the computer long term. The mothers went up to 37 when I started fitting renault plugs, 5w40 fully synth and new air filter. Fitted a new set of beru coils and cleaned the throttle body too. That's mixed driving similar to you by the sounds of it..
