travellers at the door

Really sorry if this is in the wrong thread but I need to vent. I live in a nice area where I normally feel safe, but for some reason travellers think it's okay to bang down my front door begging for things. Today I got trapped in my kitchen because some woman (who I know is a traveller as she's been here countless times before) rang my doorbell at least 20 times in the space of 5 minutes. Obviously I didn't want to answer because I know what she's up to, but I caught her peering through the front door and then when she stopped ringing the doorbell, she started banging on the handle and the glass.

Look I have nothing against travellers as I've met plenty that are very friendly and hard working, but it's not nice to feel unsafe in your own home. These people have done this so many times before and I'm not sure if it's a police matter or if I should just put up with it. Has anyone else experienced something like this before? Is there anything I can do?

She's grinding you down by harrassment, a tactic not exclusive to travellers. Don't cave, or it'll never end.

I remember hearing that they used to send in the nuns to sort out any problems with travellers on a certain halting site in Dublin. You need one of those giant statues of mary in your living room window with Christmas lights drapped over it.
