Lamb with dodgy eye

I wonder if someone has a bit of advice. I have a 5 day old lamb which seems to have an infected eye. I turned down the bottom lid on day 2 as it seemed a bit turned in (seems to be a general problem). Now the eye is mostly closed and seems to be very wet around it. Any idea before I go to the Vet? Cheers!

    Would it be Entropion?

Scroll to the bottom of this page - http://www.nadis.org.uk/bulletins/eye-diseases-in-sheep.aspx

If it is this, I think it comes from the ram.

Id say john is right, had a texal ram two years ago and a lot of his lambs had turned in eyelids. Some might have needed turning out twice but mostly once they were turned out the first time they were grand. Ended up with no blind lambs anyways.

Brought him to the Vet and she gave him a few drops of this:

with instructions to administer 3 times a day for 3 days. He did have a inturned eyelid when born which I fixed but seems he got an infection...

1 cc of anitbiotic behind the the eyelid works well with turned in eyelids.
Get a very thin 2 cc syringe and lift eyelid out and inject through the lid the making sure not to stab the eyeball, leaves a bubble of fluid behind the lid that works at both lifting the lid and clearing infection...

Out of interest what did the vet charge for you for this visit?

I just use normal pencillin - suck 1/2cc's into a small syringe, pop off the needle, put the lamb on its back on a round bale (or whatever), and just put a few drops onto the eye. Always works. On a rare occasion I might do it twice if the lamb is still in the shed/easily caught.

    mastitis tubes works well.
entropian (turned in eyelids) is genetic so many of your ewe lambs will be carrying the gene even if they don't exhibit the condition and breed it on.

we used to use needle of water (try to never let it get to infected stage) under the eyelid...it cause eyelid to swell out...the water seeks away over a day or two...

some of texels or cheviots are usually the worse culprits id ever seen

Dunno how much as its on account but I'll know in a few weeks! Would not make sense to get the Vet out for this as he's only a wether, so I brought him down in the jeep.

Fecker is out in the field now and proving increasingly hard to catch as the days go by!
