    Hi,
Just a question hoping someone can help me out.
I have a 50mm prime lens with a 52mm thread at the end of the lens to secure a filter or hood.
At the moment there is a filter on the lens but I wanted to use a hood and a filter.
Yet there is only one 52mm thread to fix one or the other.
    Cheers

Also what type of hood is best and what is a rough cost.
Would you recommend a hood on all lens to avoid flare and help protect the glass?

    Thanks

Most filters will have their own thread of the same size on the outside of it, so you can screw in another filter in tip of it, or, in your case, a lens hood. As for the best hood, I would suggest browsing what the lens manufacturers sell for that specific lens. A 50mm wouldn't need that deep a hood.

When shooting under bright light or under a high sun, a hood is essential, unless lens flare is part of the look your are seeking.

Thank you for the prompt reply ;-)
Yes there is one or two threads visible on the filter, thanks.
It's an old Zenitar 50mm 1.7 so the manufactures are long gone.
Should I look for a universal hood?

Yeah, I'd say a generic 52mm thread hood would do the trick. Amazon have them for about a fiver for metal ones. I doubt you will need a flower petal hood for a 50mm.
