Acid reflux as part of a hangover

This is a new one on me. Have a bit of a hangover today (not all that serious actually which is pretty cool, not much of a headache which is usually the worst aspect) but I have a rather more annoying and embarrassing problem: PRetty painful acid reflux in my upper chest, and near constant flatulence. :o

Are there any remedies for either of these aspects of a hangover which actually work? As I say, I know well how to deal with the headache / dehydration aspects, but this particular aspect is entirely new to me, which I suppose is pretty lucky since most of my mates have been putting up with this kind of thing for years :D

So AH, what works for ye? I'm pretty sure necking my protein shake at light speed following my lifting session probably didn't help with the heartburn issue :D Is it simply a matter of just waiting around for it to piss off? :p

NOTE TO MODS: This absolutely isn't a medical advice thread, I'm not looking for anything pharmaceutical here more just whether I should lie down or remain sitting, drink water, home remedies like these.

Milk, it's alkaline and will neutralise the acid. Or curdle in your stomach and cause projectile vomiting.

    Worth a try anyway.

    Stop drinking petrol.

Apple Cider vinegar - knocks any sort of acid-reflux problems on the head right away, and now, they do tablet form, so no nasty taste.

This is pretty sick, but it works if you have no Rennie.

Rub your fingers in your armpit, then sniff them. I've no idea how it works, but it's saved me a few Sundays when I had really bad acid reflux.

Luckily for me, this wasn't one of those nights where you go out for a few pints and wake up in the back of a truck full of pigs in Liberia.
That hasn't happened to me since last November. ;)

How old are you? I'm noticing that hangover effects seem to multiply with age. I dread to think what's around the corner.

The only thing that works for me is water and exercise outside in the fresh air. Most of the time the hangover is preferable to the exercise though.

God be with the days when men were men and they suffered through their hangover, much like remaining stoic in the face of a kick to the nuts.

Now it's all this namby-pamby "Oh, I need a life-cheat to avoid what I so richly deserve!" Pah!

How do you know someone goes to the gym?

Yep, you guessed it. They'll bring it up at any given opportunity.

Cider is pretty bad for this, as is white wine, though beers are bad enough if you go way over the top.

Rennie are OK, but not for serious reflux. For that you want the liquid gaviscon. Magic it is. Toothpaste is a very effective remedy if you're lacking in proper medicine.

Take about as much as will cover the first segment of your index finger, put it in your mouth and then swish it around, get it good and frothy before swallowing it slowly, a little at a time. It may burn a bit; this is good, it's the bicarbonate reacting with the acid in your throat and stomach. Five minutes later, you'll feel right as rain for a good while.

Eating is also good for heartburn. But it needs to be soakage. Anything that's too light like tea or biscuits or crisps is no good for soaking up the acid and will just make the reflux worse. A big dirty chip baguette, for example, is good.

Great with chips and garlic bread maybe. Not sure if it's good for a hangover mind.

Pantoloc control or another similar med will see you through. Reduces production of the acid.

    Or bulimia.

    Or acid reflux.

I'm 24, and actually I had a fairly productive weight lifting session this evening (although I was slower than usual and didn't get around to as many exercises as I like to before getting tired), and I've a feeling that drinking my protein shake too quickly afterwards at best didn't help the situation at all.
TBH, the incessant flatulence is what's really pissing me off, is that likely to be hangover related or mere coincidence?

    Or acid reflux.

I was editing that - it was anti -ninja. A lot of bulimics suffer with acid damage. Then I reconsidered on the whole "no medical advice" grounds and the being about ten posts late bit. But apple cider vinegar is also helpful here - it neutralises the acids effectively and reduces damage. I used to die with acid reflux, was in bits altogether.

Please don't give medical advice, you're not a doctor. Same goes for anyone else in this thread otherwise I'll be locking it down!

Red bull gives me horrendous heart burn. Or maybe it's jägermeister. Either way I usually have a very sore chest after a few and I find bread soda in a drop of water is your only man. It tastes shocking but it works for me.

another beer usually works for me :)

Milk is slightly acidic not alkaline.

Baking soda/ bread soda/bicarbonate of soda/sodium bicarbonate mixed with water.

This neturalises the acid and will turn into regular table salt in doing so, this will in turn aid rehydration too as its similar to drinking an isotonic drink.

Make a strong solution of it and drink a shot followed by regular water to wash it down as it can taste manky.
