Just wondering if anyone here can help me with somewhere B+M or online where I can get this bolt (Attached). Its an M6 allen key head , 7mm thread and 22mm length. Its off the handlebars of a Dahon bike.

    Thanks

Had a look at the M6 bolts on this page and its definitely close to what Im looking for . Might drop them a mail with exact dimensions of mine and make sure its correct. Bricks and Mortar shop in Dublin would be great so I could make sure it fits , but having tried 3 bike shops and 2 hardwares so far Im not sure itll be possible .

    Thanks.

Is your bolt definitely M6? Why do you think it won't ?

Reminds me of shimano crank arm bolts. But I'm not sure if they have same measurements - I might have one somewhere.

No not definitely M6 and Im beginning to think it may be an imperial measurement bolt which might be why I cant get one to fit.

If you did find something similar , could you send me the measurements ?
    Thanks for your help.

If you want to test this, just head to a hardware shop and try an M6 nut on the bolt. It'll either bind very quickly if it's imperial or it will screw on easily.

The other way to check is to lay your bolt against a known M6 bolt. The threads should mesh together if they match. If they don't, the threads will mesh for only one or two peaks and then they'll interfere with each other in a pretty obvious way.

1" = 25.4mm so ¼" = 6.35mm - pretty close unless you have callipers to measure it. Compare to a known M6 nut/bolt (Seat pin?)

Edit:- did a quick measurement from the picture if it's M6, then pitch is ~1.17 ≠ standard 1 or 1.25. If it's ¼", then should be 28threads/inch, which it has.*

Looks like 1/4" U.N.F. ok. Unified National Fine, commonly used in the motor trade.

Cheers . My trip to Tucks Fasteners today told me pretty much the same .
They said it was 7mm or M7 making it difficult to source.
Seems Opel use them and he referred me to FJKeogh in Glasnevin Ind. Estate. as one of the few places around supplying M7 sizes.
Thanks for all the help .

It is indeed an M7 bolt (or screw if we are going to get technical) and they are bloody hard to get hold of, especially with a small head, the only place on a bike they ever seem to be used is on stems, usually cheap or basic ones. Most bike shops should have a large box of reclaimed bolts from broken stems but getting one of the right length and head size could be a pain, probably easier just to buy a cheap stem.

I don't know about the bolt but I've found Ondrives and Wixroyd both good for sourcing difficult to find fasteners.
