Are white or silver fillings better?

I saw the dentist about 6 weeks ago (had never been to this dentist before), and was told I needed two fillings. Both done in white (I already had one silver). One of the teeth that was filled is now very sensitive, where I never had any trouble before, and was actually surprised when he said it needed filling. The other filling has fallen out. Are white fillings weaker than the silver? I've never had a problem with the silver one, which was done about 8 years ago.

So now I need to get one tooth refilled, and if the silver is better, then I'd rather just ask for that. Also, should I go back to the same dentist, or should I go elsewhere, since the filling fell out after just 5 weeks?

I don't think the problem lies in the choice of material. But we would need a lot more info before we could say exactly what is the problem.
Why not call the clinic and tell them what happened and see what they say.

Amalgam and composites can both work very well in some situations and poorly in others. White fillings are more technique sensitive, and intolerant of being placed in wet environments, that being said some filling seem to fall out for no good reason. As georgie says go back to the dentist and see whats what.
