Just getting over the disappointment of Barcelona marathon (damn you Spanish sunshine and heat!!), dusting myself off and planning the next challenge - ultimately DCM14 - and was thinking of doing it properly this time and not picking bits of training plans that suited my time/mileage constraints. What do people here think is a good book for a middle/back of pack runner (4:10 marathon; 1:45 HM) to read and training plan to follow. I was looking at Daniel's Running Formula or Advanced Marathoning - are these too advanced for the likes of me or are their better alternatives.

    Thanks for your help

Advanced Marathoning is not too advanced for you. I bought that book when my Half PB was 1:48 and Full was 4:15. Followed the 35-55 mpw programme and ran a 3:32 marathon. Following that plan will definitely up your endurance and improve your marathon time.

They're both very appropriate books for you. Can't recommend Advanced Marathoning highly enough. It brought me from 4.45 to 3.56 to 3.20 within a year.

Thaks for the feedback, had a look at the 35-55mpw plan on Advanced Marathoning and, while looking daunting, is doable if I get a good base biult up from now. Gonna get that book today.

Currently reading the Daniels book. Very good, a lot of technical detail but he has plans for all levels really.
