I got a bmw 320 e90 with 109000 miles delivered down to dublin from a dealer in Tye.

Got it checked out by my mechanic who said it would need a new pulley as well as rear discs and pads. Said it would cost €500 to fix.

Asked my northerndealer to take €500 off the price but he says he can get parts for £90 and will send parts to his friends garage in dublin to fix it.

I like the car and mechanic said itsba good car overall. I have paid €100 deposit.

    Would you walk away?
Really dont want to as I like the car and need one asap for work.

They're hardly big jobs, if the car got a clean bill of health otherwise I'm not sure it would. Wheres Tye?

Sounds fairly normal "straight away" work for a second-hand car. Nobody services a car they're about to sell afterall...

Private sale probably but I would expect a dealer selling it to.

Why doesn't he simply do the work himself?

Cos he is based in Tyrone and delivered the car down to Dublin.
Would save him having to bring it up and down again

Have you already had the car transported down? If you paid a deposit and already had the car brought down I can't see him knocking money off the price now

He got car fixed at his mates garage in dublin and wants me to collect it there.

Would you trust that he replaced pulley, break discs and pads?
Is it worth paying someone else another €50 to check if they are replaced
or is there some way I can ask for receipts for the new parts?

There is. You ask him for a receipt for the work done. I would do that regardless, just so you can track what work has been done to your car and when. It'll help you schedule regular maintenance.

When picking up car ask to be shown the parts fitted.

New disks will be visible through gaps in alloys
if you look a little closer you should just be able to see the side of pads you can compare to front that where not changed.

Pully will be where serpentine belt is it will stand out as new item compared to the other pulleys

Keep the 50 euro in your pocket

Changed loads of pulleys on the e90 320 I presume he's on about the crank shaft pully it's also a damper and if u don't know what ur looking at u won't know if that's being changed. But as far as I know them pullys are a lot more the 100e we defo fit one a week straight forward job for someone in the know. Has it had the abs pump replaced yet. Hope for your sake it has although the price has dropped on the pump lately. Go through the service book see has the turbo breather being changed. What year is it. Get the metal brake pipes the rear checked.
