Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write this essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us...

In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions.

But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain...

    ...and an athlete...

    ...and a basket case...

    ...a princess...

    ...and a criminal...

    Does that answer your question?...

    Sincerely yours,

    The Breakfast Club.

Liked the Breakfast Club, not my favourite Hughes directed film though, that was Planes, Trains and Automobiles, favourite of any of his films has to be Some Kind of Wonderful, ah Mary Stuart Masterson.

    They're supposed to be though..

The whole point really is that they're all pretty much spoiled brats as they enter that morning and after spending the day being challenged by one another (Bender being the catalyst for much of it) they change.. and start taking responsibility for their lives rather than blaming their parents, as they had been.

They're not really spoiled though (except for Claire). On the contrary, really. Their parents are physically abusive, neglectful, ignorant, etc. The point is the kids realize they've all experienced vehement, personal emotional turbulence which thereby diminishes the preconceived notions they had against each other.

One of my favourite movies. John Hughes is one of the few film makers who was able to "Talk" to the youth on their level and made films they could genuinely relate to. Apart from Beethoven, that is a stupid movie.

I'm aware of that, I was quoting Jay & Silent Bob.

    I like the film.
Still, there is something really off about Bender's creepiness towards Molly Ringwald's character and him ultimately getting the girl.

I always felt shitty for Brian. Asshole gets the girl. Jock gets the girl (After she is "Prettified"). Nerd writes a group essay.

Ally Sheedy's character was prettified but Ringwald's character had to change herself too for the asshole. Neither of the boys had to change themselves for the girls. It's probably not that great a film in that respect if you think about it...

I think Claire understood why Bender is how he is. They reached a level of understanding. He's still a hard-case, mostly I guess, but he kind of redeemed himself. She gets his issues, and now he knows he can get over them, because of her. She changed his life, man! He takes a part of her with him (The earring) to help through being at home, as a reminder he'll see her again soon. Then FISTPUMP, FREEZEFRAME, THEME.

^ But what does she get from the relationship? Hmmmm? A morning of abuse and now she's only got one earring!

Ahhh, one of those movies that brings me straight back in time. Thanks for bringing it up Basq.
Only watched it again recently after it had been heavily name checked in the movie Pitch Perfect.

Rick Moranis was the original janitor but was fired for playing him with a Russian accent.
