Volvo S40 Problem

    Volvo S40 2001 1.8i SE Petrol. Wouldn't accelerate. Engine light immuminates. My mechanic (Private not main dealer) attached a computer. Result, need a new accelerator (with Fly by wire thing on top) I ordered same from main dealer (€127)
    Result no improvement. Mechanic reattaches computer, this time it points to a fault in part (next to fly by wire receiver) with rotating circular magnets for opening and closing part of engine which makes car go faster (pardon my lack of correct lingo, I'm just a motorist)
    He detaches this piece, opens this gadget and finds that one of the two circular magnets has detached. He glues this back in place, convinced that this has solved problem, leaves glue to harden overnight and reattaches to engine.
    Result no improvement. Right now, after being without car for two weeks, I'm considering scrapping car and buying something else.
    Any suggestions????
