Hi folks, I am just wondering if anyone could tell me the how much approximately I should be looking at for a replacement sensor for part and labour? It's the bank 2 sensor 1 that is giving trouble. It's a 2002 1ltr Seat Ibiza.

It caused the EML to come on, I reset it but it's come back on a week later. I presume driving until it's fixed is a no-no?

    Drive on, it'll be ok.

Will probably cost in the €60 region for a new sensor, fitting it is simple enough.

Where do you get your petrol? That's often a symptom of bad petrol

What code was showing with the EML?

And is it bank 1 sensor 2? Only v engines have a bank two as far as I know.

I got a genuine toyota one for my car and it was approx 105 euro for the part, online.

You can get universal ones on ebay for about 20 euro but you have have to alter the wiring yourself. If I needed one again I'd actually just get one of them.

Now that you've said it, the light has come on twice after filling up in the Esso garage in Maynooth within 5km of leaving the station.
It came on the 3rd time about 150km into a tank of Applegreen petrol so I'm not sure it's fair to conclude it's the petrol.

You can price your lambda sensor here :
    http://lambdapower.co.uk/

Check your nct report it will tell you if it is near the fail limit.

2nd lambda only monitors the effectiveness of the cat. Doesn't actually do anything and won't be an NCT fail. Drive her on t'fook :pac:.

If car is using more fuel than it should this is a sign they need changing as they tell the engine the fuel air mix to use.

Probably going to get laughed at for this but .... Engine management light came on in my old skoda fabia, mechanic said lambda sensor 180 aprox for vw sensor plus fitting ... So I threw in some dipetane, engine light went off , ran through the tank , light back on !
I've tried it a few times,I was a bit surprised that something being burned in the engine would "clean" a sensor in the exhaust ..

I don't have the code but I had it in my head that it was bank 2 sensor 1, will check this again before ordering anything.

This is another thing that has confused me. I've heard the main symptom of a faulty oxygen sensor is poor fuel economy. The last two tanks however have given me 50 MPG and 47 MPG - two of the best tanks I've ever had. Could there be something else up?

It depends on if it's front sensor or back. The back one has no effect on fuel economy.
