pitch of roof to low for existing slates, replace with steel cladding

    Guys,

I have a roof on an extension of a house which is slated. The pitch is approx 11 degrees. Rain is blowing up under the slates. The building is facing right on to the sea in Wexford.

I am thinking of removing the slates and putting corrugated non drip painted cladding (tin) on it. I am not worried how it looks as you would only see the roof from a boat at sea.

I was hoping to put rock wool between the laths on top of the felt and screw the tin to the existing timbers for insulation and to reduce noise

Do you see any problems using tin on this pitch, the roof is only 17' w x16' deep so it will only be one length long. Also would it cause condensation in the rock wool sitting it above the felt.

How would I seal the roof to stop the rain blowing up from the bottom of the roof were it is to fall into the gutter.

The other option I had was to torch felt directly on to the slates with out removing the slates but not sure of this idea.

    Any thoughts would be great

    Thanks

    Dinny

You can get it with insulation on it. I'd say it would be ok for what you want. You know by looking at it that it's not real tile but better than corrugated metal.

You can slate down to the angle you have, but the specification needs to be designed by the slate manufacturer. You might end up putting torch on underneath the slates! ( That's if you need to keep the slate finish for aesthetics)
I'm not a fan of the Nordman type roofs on domestic, especially if the rest of the dwelling is roofed conventionally.

No issue with the look as it more or less impossible to see the roof.

I am looking the most cost effective way of doing this, the house is a very old holiday home and 10 yrs down the line I may even knock it.

I am really looking at the steel option, my worry is the front being very exposed and if there will be condensation even from the non drip.

The normand seems a very good product but the cost was in excess of €1000 + vat including flashing etc. They don't do insulated really anymore. It is special offer from Belgium and twice the price.

Any thoughts on putting felt on over the existing slate, would this be a made option?. It would certainly be the cheapest option
