Covering Career Break

    Hi All,

I am covering a career break and knowing the person involved I don't think they will be coming back to the job.

I just want to clarify a few things.

When the person's career break is over would the job be re-advertised?

If I stay the requisite 3 or 4 years? Would my role become permanent or does it depend on the length of the career break?

    Thanks for any help!

Its hard to answer that question as it depends on the school and its allocation etc.
Fromm experience we had one person on career break who didn't return and the person who was in got the job for (it was advertised, interviewed etc) after the career break had ended.

In another instance the job simply vanished as we were over quota that year so not exactly sure what happened but the job want there the following academic year (or it didn't appear to be in the subject dept it had been anyway).

In a very similar position to the OP. Covering a career break currently, and know for certain that the person is not coming back this year.

I'd be fairly confident on being kept on (although in this field you can't take anything for granted!), so just wondering would I have to be interviewed for the second year?

They weren't in our school as its wasn't actually a different job, if the principal was happy with them they were kept on

I've been covering a career break for three years, never re - interviewed, and my principal has told me if I'm back in September she'll apply for a CID for me. I'm not getting my hopes up, but we'll see.

its a difficult one. The job spec could change, especially with the new JC coming in so don't rely on things being replaced as is. It had to be filled as is until the person either comes back or decides not to. Also you may have signed that you understood career break as being objective grounds regarding CIDs.
